Recognising that there was a dire need to take up assessment studies for a better understanding and management of the natural resources to arrest the rapid environmental degradation, a group of environmentalists and conservationists decided to set up a platform for making concerted efforts in this direction. Consequently, CERA was launched as a registered Society on 1st May 2013.
Broad Areas of Work
The broad areas of work envisaged for CERA are as under:
Environmental studies, interdisciplinary research and development and consultancy to enhance the capability of protecting the environment and its resources.
Assessment of natural resources for management and development from the perspective of ecological stability, social equity and justice. The programme activities involve (1) Environment (land, forests, sea, rivers, lakes) and allied fields such as protection and sustainable development (2) research and development including inventory of threatened species for conservation planning or action (3) socio-economic issues, (4) wasteland development including eco-restoration, (5) deployment of appropriate technologies and tools, (6) promotion of environmental friendly entrepreneurial ventures, (7) information dissemination, (8) monitoring and evaluation of projects, (9) environmental impact assessment/environmental management plan studies, (10) landscape conservation, and (11) environmental education/training
