OBJECTIVES

The idea for setting up CERA was mooted by a group of environmentalists and conservationists who were concerned about the rapidly degrading environment and felt that there was a dire need to take up assessment studies. The CERA was established in early 2013 with the following objectives:

1

Undertake environmental studies, interdisciplinary research and development and consultancy to enhance the capability of protecting the environment and its resources in India and elsewhere.

2

Contribute to the management of natural resources and development from the perspective of ecological stability, social equity and justice.

3

Provide a platform for the generation and exchange of ideas in activities related to environmental conservation and sustainable development. This will be achieved through information dissemination, forums, networking, community participation, workshops and seminars, field activities, translating research and development to practical applications, encouraging high standards of publication and other media, pilot programmes, etc.

4

Undertake, alone or in collaboration with other institutions and voluntary bodies, the training of multidisciplinary researchers specializing in various aspects of environment and allied areas, policy makers, government officials, citizen groups, academic institutions, private organizations, NGOs, etc., in the concerned areas.

5

Undertake programmes for the revival of indigenous technology through awareness, research, survey and monitoring, information dissemination, education and training and providing infrastructural assistance.
